lMy name is Felicity Loveday, and this is my website. I’m a lover of good books, especially those with plenty of ‘Spirit’ in them! I have an important and useful message to convey to you from a very good friend of mine – a talented lady by the name of Marisa Fenderl, whom I met in South Africa (my place of origin) years ago. She has written a book especially for young people, which I have read, and I am very impressed with it. Many of her friends who have also read the book, are likewise very impressed, and have been encouraging her to ‘get it out there’. So this is the logical result!

Therefore, anyone with budding teenagers in the house will be very interested in what I have to say!  I received 50 copies of this valuable and delightful book from Marisa a couple of months ago, and because Christmas is coming, I thought this to be the right time to tell you something about it! Let me quickly quote to you what the back cover page says about the book:

“This is the story of the character forming adventures of a bright blue-eyed Indian boy, born in the middle of the Amazon forest in Brazil, the son of a herbalist of the Asháninka Tribe. At the tender age of nine, due to tragic circumstances, Tiri finds himself alone in the world, with no prospects in life – until something extraordinary happens to him, which makes him leave his cabin in the forest and wander in search of what was promised to him”.

All the place names, rivers, etc. really do exist, and the author did a great deal of research about the country and it’s names, tribes, and places, to make sure that what she used in the story was all authentic. Marisa can speak five languages, including Brazilian (Portugese), she’s a professional translator, an expert fabric designer, a well travelled and wise woman, and she has put much of her wisdom into this story, which is suitable for any youngster from about 11 years and upwards.

Marisa is very concerned about the youth of today, so I have included the ‘Author’s Note’ from the book itself here, for you to see for yourself her attitude and feelings about ourselves and the world which our youth is facing today.

Author’s Note

Having lived in Europe, in Africa (North and South) and in Brazil, having been in contact with a great variety of people of different races, religions and philosophies, and having had experiences that could fill far more than one lifetime, I am happy to be able to send a message to the young people of today, who live in a violent, greedy world full of pitfalls, and to tell them that

    • Each of us can make a difference on this planet, if we are willing to do something constructive within our own possibilities, to relieve our neighbor’s misery. The real heroes are the ones who helped humanity to evolve, who brought wisdom and kindness to this world - not mindless violence.

    • Crime doesn’t pay, but that a criminal can change, regain people’s love and respect, and even their admiration for having had the courage to change.

    • We should have faith in what Tiri calls the “Great Spirit of Light” (or whatever we want to call the Creator), and ourselves – and that we should be Free Spirits, not blind followers.

    • The word “Despair” should disappear from our vocabulary, because if we do our best, show courage, honesty and perseverance – and don’t expect the world to solve our problems – sooner or later things start to improve.

    • A sense of humour is the best tonic if we want to survive on this planet!’ (This story has plenty of good humour and laughter!)

In conclusion, here is a review about Tiri:

“What a fascinating book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I feel Tiri can really help youngsters to cope with situations, by being a good example himself in the different circumstances he faces. There is plenty of adventure here, as well as humour and light-hearted-ness - so VERY necessary in the real world, where violence and greed try to predominate. The author has a broad approach to Spirituality, and how the 'Spirit of Light' can uplift and inspire those young people who are 'tuned in' to its influence, by whatever name. In this respect, Marisa Fenderl expresses this story with sensitivity and great care. A worthwhile book to give to a youngster as a birthday or Christmas gift, anywhere between 11 and late teenage - even for adults!) Milly (looking for integrity)
